Curse of the Dead Man’s Diamond
Coming from Delacorte Press 9/14/24
When twelve-year-old Charlotte is uprooted from New York City and forced to move to sweaty, sticky, roach-infested Florida, she’ll do anything to get back home – even conspiring with ghosts. Everyone in the kooky seaside town of Casaluna is obsessed with the supernatural, and Charlie finds herself living in the town’s most infamous haunted house, inhabited by a trio of rambunctious ghosts who were cursed for stealing a dead man’s diamond.
When she learns that the missing jewel is still in the house, she gets a brilliant idea: find the diamond and sell it so her family can afford to move back to New York. But she quickly learns that undoing a centuries’ old curse isn’t that simple, especially when she’s pitted against the school bully and three unruly spirits. In the end, she’ll discover that the only way to rid herself of ghosts and curses may be the one thing she fears the most: confronting the painful past that haunts her.
Coming soon in hardcover, paperback and audiobook.
Trex
Delacorte Press 2022
“This novel delivers on its engaging Stranger Things–meets-superheroes hook
with a well-plotted mystery that balances action, friendship, and thoughtful
discussion of mental health.”
– School Library Journal
As a child, Trex Wilson received an experimental brain implant that saved his life, but it came with an unusual side effect: he shocks everything he touches. To make matters worse, his overprotective mother has kept him out of school and on the move his entire life. She’s convinced that the scientists who saved him now want to exploit the technology in his head. When she finally agrees to send him to a real school for sixth grade, Trex is determined to lead a normal life at last – which means keeping his mother calm and, above all, keeping his unique brain a secret. Unfortunately, the electricity sparking from his fingertips is getting more powerful by the day.
When rumors emerge about a prowler sneaking around his new neighborhood, Trex sets out to catch the culprit so his mother won’t uproot him again. He reluctantly teams up with Mellie “the Mouse,” a reclusive classmate training to be a spy. Mellie is certain she saw lightning shoot from Trex’s fingers, and she’s more intent on exposing the new kid than nabbing the bad guy. As a grudging friendship develops between them, Trex and Mellie find themselves pitted against school bullies, their own parents, and yes, an evil, brain-hacking corporation. Along the way, they’ll question what it means to be “normal” and explore the fine line between secrets and lies.
Available in hardcover, paperback, and audiobook.
Kingdom of Secrets
Delacorte Press 2021
Prismena’s father is the hot air balloonist in the peaceful kingdom of Oren. She assists him by mending torn balloons, but she yearns to build and fly the complicated machines herself. One day, a waif named Abi steals Prissy’s only remaining memento of her deceased mother – a silk scarf – and promises to return it only if Prissy smuggles a mysterious box onto one of her father’s flights. Since balloon travel is strictly regulated in Oren, that single act of rebellion results in her father’s arrest and kicks off a spiraling series of events that will yank Prissy out of her predictable life.
Along the way to free her father from jail, she’ll get caught up in a bar fight, nabbed by a sadistic schoolmistress, tossed into a home for unwanted children, schooled in the art of stealing, and thrust into the center of a brewing rebellion. On her journey through Oren – with its glitzy neighborhoods and its seedy underbelly – Prismena will uncover secrets that change the way she views her family, her kingdom, herself, and even her beloved hot air balloons. She’ll have to break a few rules – and even forge metal – to save the people she loves, but she may also get a chance to soar.
Available in hardcover and audiobook.
